Late rally comes up short against Rebels

FRESNO, Calif. – Despite a late push, a two-goal deficit was too much to overcome on Thursday night at Bulldog Soccer Stadium for Fresno State as the Bulldogs fell 2-1 to UNLV.
How It Happened
Inserted into the starting XI, freshman Ciara Wilson was a threat early for the 'Dogs up top. The sixth minute saw Wilson earn the first opportunity of the game, controlling a long ball at the top of the box but was cut down on the edge of the 18. Her free kick drifted over the crossbar. In the 17th, minutes after being pulled down in the box, the freshman was dangerous again, splitting defenders in the box and ripping a low shot toward the post but Riley Liebsack stuck her leg out to make the stop.
UNLV struck first in the 33rd minute. Ten minutes after hitting a post, Alysa Caso beat a her marker and found the head of Mallie Ramirez just outside the six.
The Bulldogs looked for an opportunity in the final minutes through Adriana Maldonado on the right flank. Already having beat her mark once previously to set up a cross, the junior got a step on her marker again but was muscled to the ground in the box, but no whistle came as the ball rolled out for a goal kick.
The Rebels doubled their advantage in the 56th minute from a strike at the top of the 18 on a lay off to Jules Dominguez.
The 73rd minute saw Megan Galvan and the Bulldogs asking questions. A shot from inside the left side of the six found the elbow of a Rebel defender but no call was awarded.
The 'Dogs did cut the deficit minutes later as Chais Wright, who was making her first appearance of the season after being sidelined, dropped in a 40-yard pass to Kaelyn Miller. The sophomore took one touch and nodded the ball into the path of a streaking Kassandra Ceja. One dribble into the box and the junior struck a low shot past Liebsack.
With six minutes remaining in the match, a ball was laid back to Miller outside the box but her attempt to level inside of the left post was corralled by a diving Liebsack.
Scoring Summary
32:03 – UNLV – Mallie Ramirez (Alysa Caso)
55:53 – UNLV – Jules Dominguez (Mimi Mendoza)
75:31 – FS – Kassandra Ceja (Kaelyn Miller, Chais Wright)
