'Dogs close out Cal Cup with 9-7 win over Spartans

BERKELEY, Calif. - A pair of fourth quarter goals from Cynthia Rosa proved to be the difference on Sunday afternoon as the Fresno State water polo team defeated San Jose State, 9-7 at the Cal Cup.
Fresno State (2-5) was led in scoring by Daphne Guevremont with three goals adding a pair of scores by Rosa & Brooke Ochoa and one goal apiece from Abigayle Armstrong and Kaitlin Howarth.
In goal, Paula Nieto Jasny made 11 saves in the contest.
How It Happened vs. No. 14 San Jose State
The opening quarter saw the 'Dogs and Spartans play to a 1-1 draw.
The Bulldogs tacked on three goals in the second quarter, including one from Armstrong with one second remaining in the first half, for a 4-3 halftime lead.
Back-to-back goals from Guevremont extended the 'Dogs lead to 6-3 to start the second half, but the Spartans answered back with three straight goals to knot the game at six.
With Rosa coming through with back-to-back goals, with the second one coming with under a minute to play, the 'Dogs led 8-6 as the teams traded goals in the final 34 seconds.
