'Dogs pull a comeback win against the Panthers to close out the GCU Classic

PHOENIX, Ariz.- Fresno State women's basketball team pulled a comeback win against Eastern Illinois for their second game of the GCU Classic on Saturday morning at the GCU Arena.Â
Senior Deajanae Harvey would spark the comeback for the Bulldogs with back-to-back three-pointers, overcoming a 14 point deficit, giving the 'Dogs a 10 point lead to finalize the game.Â
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
In a similar story to the tournament opener, Fresno State would find themselves trailing in the first period. Bulldogs would get eight points on the board, but find themselves stagnant less than five minutes into play. Panthers would then go on a 11 point scoring run extending their lead by 14 points in over four minutes of play. 'Dogs would nip at the lead bringing it down to 12, but the first quarter would end in the Panthers favor.Â
Shooting 60% and going 9-15 from the field Fresno State would put up 23 points. Bulldogs would get in three 3-pointers, courtesy of Sydney Dethman, Keely Brown and Deajanae Harvey. The final shot for the Bulldogs in the second quarter, a three-pointer by Brown in the last 30 seconds, would put the 'Dogs down by four going into the half.Â
Fresno State would return to the court for the second half of play recharged. A three-pointer by Brown followed by a layup in the paint by Dethman, would tighten the Panthers six point lead to three, five minutes in. Harvey would spark a change in the game with back-to-back three pointers, taking the lead by three, 46-43.Â
In a groove, Bulldogs would then open a 7-0 scoring run and freshman Taija Sta. Maria would close the third quarter with a three-pointer, giving the 'Dogs an eight point lead. Â
Steady, the 'Dogs would continue to build their lead. Jacobs would sink in two 3-pointers to start the fourth quarter creating the biggest lead of the game with 15 points. Eastern Illinois would make their final response of the game with 11 points, but the 'Dogs would close out with a ten point lead.Â
Eastern Illinois top scorers of the game were Macy McGlone (19), Miah Monahan (12) and Ellie Colson (10.) McGlone would be the only player of the game to earn a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds.Â
