PALM DESERT, Calif. – After a 71 on Monday in the opening round, Matthew Manganello moved to the top of the leaderboard early in round 2 at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate. The Bulldog is tied for first at 6-under par with CSU Fullerton's Harry Doig with 18 holes to play. The two are four shots clear of the field.
Manganello quickly moved up the leaderboard on Tuesday with three straight birdies after back-to-back pars to start his round. He added another one at 10 before taking his lone bogey of the round on 13. The junior pulled that stroke back with a birdie on 14. Manganello knocked in his sixth birdie of the round on 17 to finish with a 5-under par 67 for the day.
Like his teammate, Sutherland was sitting at 4-under through 10 holes. Unfortunately, for the second straight day though, the junior struggled on the last eight holes with four bogeys, moving from third into a tie for 10th. Sutherland ended the day with a 71 and is even par for the tournament.
Second through the opening 18 holes, Joseph Lloyd took six bogeys on the day. The sophomore remains in the Top 20, tied for 19th at 1-over par following a 76 on Thursday.
Fresno State shot 2-over par (290) for the round. The Bulldogs are third at even par for the week, seven shots back of Wyoming and one behind Utah.
The final round will begin tomorrow at 8 a.m. PT.
