Jackson records nation's leading mark in the discus

SAN DIEGO – On the final day of the Aztec Invitational, Fresno State's Cierra Jackson did something just one other discus thrower in Mountain West history has done—throw beyond 60 meters. The sophomore won the event with a mark of 60.77m/199-4, the No. 2 throw in conference history.
Jackson's day was not done there, the Chandler, Ariz. native headed over to the shot put where she placed fourth with a toss of 15.70m/51-6.25. It was the second-best outdoor throw of her career.
In both events, Jordyn Bryant and Jocelynn Budwig each placed in the Top 10. Bryant finished fifth in the shot put (15.37m/50-5.25) and sixth in the discus (52.48m.172-2). Budwig was seventh in the shot put (14.55m/47-9) and ninth in the discus (47.98m/157-5).
Those two events accounted for six of Fresno State's 13 Top-10 results on the day.
Also, in the throws, Isaiah Calvin earned an eight-place finish in the men's javelin with a toss of 54.89m/180-1.
In the jumps, Rachela Pace finished 10th in the triple jump with a mark of 11.97m/39-3.25.
On the track, Gianna Chiaramonte had the team's highest finish, placing second in the steeplechase with a time of 12:25.82. In the 5,000 meters, Corie Smith picked up a third-place finish (17:34.76) and Morgan Hutchison was seventh (18:24.46).
Closing out the day, the women's 4x400 relay placed seventh (3:50.76) while the men's team was 10th (3:26.97).
In a scored meet, the Bulldog women finished second to USC with 60 points. Adding to today's total, Kaja Bins and Kaitlynn Perez, second and eighth in the heptathlon, and Amelia DiPaola, fourth in the hammer, provided the team with 14 points on Friday.

The Bulldogs return to Fresno to host the West Coast Relays on March 30-31. The hammer and javelin events will be contested on Thursday at Warmerdam Field with all other events taking place on Friday at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
