'Dogs drop heartbreaker at New Mexico

With the loss, Fresno State now sits at 21-20 (11-11 Mountain West) and UNM advances to 20-17 (8-10 MW).
NOTES:
- Starting pitcher Ixan Henderson and reliever Zach Statzer tossed a combined 12 strikeouts on the mound.
- Reigning MW Freshman of the Week hit his seventh tater of the season and Grady Morgan hit his fourth.
- Ben Newton recorded his second career triple.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The 'Dogs came out hot and scored six runs on seven hits in the top of the first inning. They extended their lead in the top of the third by scoring three more after Ben Newton tripled down the right field line, Travis Welker singled to right field and Grady Morgan crushed a homer over the batter's eye in center field to make it a 9-0 game.
UNM went on a scoring streak and responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning off a double and a single. The Lobos had an explosive fifth inning and scored five on a home run, two doubles and three singles.
Murf Gray put the 'Dogs back in the running with a solo shot to left field to tie the game at 10.
The Lobos surged through the bottom of the eighth and brought home six more runs to solidify their 16-10 victory over Fresno State.
UP NEXT: Fresno State has a chance to bounce back on Saturday with first pitch set for 1 p.m. PT at Santa Ana Star Field.
