‘Dogs fall to heavy Lobo Offense

With the loss, Fresno State is now 21-21 on the season (11-12 Mountain West) and New Mexico climbs to 21-17 (9-10 MW).
NOTES:
- The 'Dogs combined for 12 hits for the fourth time this year, the third most hits in a game in 2023.
- Travis Welker led at the plate, going two for four.
- Bryce Armstrong pitched a season-high 3.1 innings allowing only two runs and one walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The 'Dogs were the first on the board after a wild pitch plated Grady Morgan in the top of the first.
A two-run homer put the Lobos ahead in the bottom of the inning and hit two more in the bottom of the third to make it a 6-1 game.
After a leadoff double, Tommy Hopfe gave the 'Dogs another run in the top of the fourth after Ben Newton drove him in. The Lobos responded with an electric fourth inning and scored six runs on four hits.
Fresno State scored three runs in the top of the fifth, with the highlight being an RBI double from five-time reigning MW Freshman of the Week Murf Gray. In the bottom of the inning, Justin Olson hit his third homer of the game to extend the Lobo lead to 13-5.
Back-to-back doubles from Ben Newton and Tyler Davis to lead off the top of the sixth gave the 'Dogs their final two runs of the game. The Lobos continued to score with a solo shot in the seventh and a three-run home in the eighth to make it a 17-7 final score.
UP NEXT: Fresno State will wrap up the series in New Mexico on Sunday with first pitch slated for 11 a.m. PT.
