FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's tennis team has released its 2023 fall schedule that features six tournaments from September to November this fall.
"It's been exciting to be back in full swing with the team. We have three new student-athletes that will add onto a veteran MW Championship team," said head coach Denise Dy. "To kick us off, we have Misaki Kobayashi and Mariya Vyshkina starting our fall season at The California Tennis Club this weekend. This is an incredible event where players have an opportunity to compete for a wild card into a high level pro tournament."
Â
Fresno State will begin its fall action this weekend at the Battle of the Bay for the second year in a row. Yinglak Jittakoat and Matilde Magrini competed at last year's event. Competition in 2023 runs from Sept. 21-24.
"Next week, we will be able to see the rest of the team with our new assistant coach, Julia, who will be competing at the Cal Fall Invite. We will be able to see many of our rivals and opponents this upcoming spring.," added Dy on upcoming matches.Â
"We have returners Yinglak [Jittakoat] and Matilde [Magrini], who are coming from an NCAA Tournament appearance. They will both be competing in the prestigious ITA All-American tournament in Cary, NC. Very exciting to have them both back for another season together."
Â
Jittakoat returns as the reigning Mountain West Player of the Year, having earned the honors in back-to-back seasons. She became the fourth women's tennis player in Mountain West history to receive player of the year honors in consecutive seasons (2022 & 2023). In addition to her Player of the Year nod a season ago, she was also named to the 2023 All-MW Singles and Doubles Teams.
Â
Joining Jittakoat in MW honors last season, and also returning for the 2023-24 season, in Magrini who was a All-MW Doubles Team honoree for her second-straight season last year.
Â
Dy is entering her fourth season as the 11th head coach of the Fresno State women's tennis program.
