'Dogs open 2024-25 season with Fresno State Invite

FRESNO, Calif.- Fresno State swim and dive team will kick off the 2024-25 season at home with the Fresno State Invitational on Oct. 4-5 at the Fresno State Aquatics Center this Friday and Saturday.
Broken into three sessions, the four teams will compete in two sessions on Friday (11 a.m. / 6 p.m.) and a single session on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. The Bulldogs will see fellow Mountain West opponents San Jose State, San Diego State, Washington State, alongside the Big 10's newest addition, UCLA.Â
BULLDOG BONES
- Fresno State will open the 2024-25 season at home with the Fresno State invitationalÂ
- Bulldogs will once again open the season with the Fresno State InvitationalÂ
- Dogs' are joined by six newcomers this season, transfer Natalia Bedolla and freshmen crew Ryley Clark, Ella Turner, Makela Perera, Siena Cheng Lucey and Parker Connor
- Fresno State finished last season with a program-best 4th place finish at the Mountain West Championships, breaking three program records over the course of the weekend
- Bulldogs are slated for two more home meets this season against Pepperdine (Jan. 10-11) and San Jose State (Feb. 1)Â
- Fresno State Invitational is a three session meet with two session on the first day and one session on the followingÂ
- Leading the way for the Bulldogs are team captains Sera Hanagan, Julia Matney and Korrie TenganÂ
- This seasons invitational will feature fellow Mountain West opponents San Jose State, San Diego State and affiliate member Washington State along with UCLA and Hawai'i (Diving only)Â

THE BIG 'DOGS ARE BACKÂ
- Fresno State will see the return of 22 athletes this seasonÂ
- Notable returners are Sera Hanagan, Laura Kalmar, Aliz Kalmar and Grace Ally.Â
- All four 'Dogs had a hearty season, breaking program and Aquatic Center records.Â
- Hanagan (200 I.M.), A. Kalmar (100 breaststroke)Â and Ally (Platform) all saw a program record fall at the 2024 MW Championships, Aliz's occurring twice in one day
- Laura Kalmar saw a seven year Aquatic Center record fall against UC DavisÂ
OPPONENT OUTLOOKÂ
San Jose State
- Finished 8th at the 2024 Mountain West ChampionshipÂ
- In their last duel meeting, the Spartans defeated the Bulldogs at the Fresno State Aquatic Center Fresno State, 151-149
- Sage Hopkins is enters his 16th year as head coachÂ
- The Spartans will see the return of 18 swimmers
San Diego State
- Aztecs earned a three-peat at the MW Championships (2022, 2023, 2024)
- San Diego completed the 2023-24 season undefeated with a 15-0 record
- Finished 2nd at last seasons Fresno State Invitational
- Mike Shrader will be entering his 18th season as head coachÂ
- 16 athletes are returning for the 2024-2025 season
Washington State
- Washington State was announced as a two-year affiliate member of the Mountain West beginning the 2024-25 academic year
- Finished 3rd in the Fresno State Invitational in 2023
- Finished 8th in the Pac-12 Conference Championship
- Sophomore Emily Lundgren was named an All-American, the first time any swimmer from Washington State has received that honor is program history
- Head coach Matt Leach is returning for his sixth season as head coachÂ
- Dori Hathazi and Emily Lundgren were the first freshmen in program history to make it to the NCAA swimming championships.
UCLA
- Won 11 out of 21 events last year at the Fresno State Invitational, helping them finish first out of five teams
- Finished the 2023-2024 season with a 5-4 overall record
- Finished 4th in the 2024 Pac-12 Championship
- Jordan Wolfrum enters her fifth year as the head coach
- Bruins saw two swimmers at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris,Â
- Gizem Guvenc (Turkey) and Emma Harvey (Bermuda)
- UCLA will have over 30 returning athletesÂ
