Dunbar clinches second conference win for the 'Dogs

FRESNO, Calif- Fresno State women's tennis team earns their second conference win this season, from the racket of freshman Eliza Dunbar on Friday afternoon at Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Complex, 4-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
For the second time in a row No. 2 doubles pair Eliza Dunbar and Carolina Piferi close in on their opponent first. The pair defeated Falcons Van Houweling/Kojonroj, 6-1. Courts 1 and 3 were tied at 5-2, with the Bulldogs closing in on the doubles point. No. 1 pair Matilde Magrini and Misaki Kobayashi clinched the doubles point to take the lead into singles play, 1-0.

Easy does it for Piferi with a clean sweep in two sets defeating Flodin, 6-0. Hannah Piper followed in suit to defeat Limbago in another sweep of 6-0 in two sets to bring the Bulldogs lead to 3-0. On court No. 2, Kobayashi pulls through to take the first set at 7-5 against Nadia Kojoroj. Alexis Odom collects Air Force's first point of the match at No. 4 defeating Mariya Vyshkina 6-2, 6-1. Magrini played a tough set on court 1 to battle in the second set, 6-3. Eliza Dunbar seals the deal on the match defeating Sanchirico; 6-2, 6-4.

NOTES

Fresno State sits 2-0 and is just one of two MW teams undefeated in conference play, with New Mexico leading 3-0
Carolina Piferi earns her eighth straight win at No. 3 singles
Piferi has also held opponents to two games or less in every set for the last three matches
Two freshman seized three of the four points, Hannah Pieper earned the third point of the match and Eliza Dunbar grabbed the final point for the win and the doubles point
Dunbar sees her first win at No. 6 since early February after her last two matches were left unfinished
Bulldogs home record improves to 6-2
