Chen in third after day one of Mountain West Championship

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – The Fresno State women's golf team sits in fourth place after the first round of the Mountain West Championship at the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at the Mission Hills Country Club, carding a 5-over 293.
San Jose State leads the championship after round one at 8-under, while Colorado State is in second at 2-under, UNLV is in third at 1-over and San Diego State at 6-over in fourth to round out the top five.
Sophia Chen had a stellar opening round for the Bulldogs, shooting a 3-under 69 with seven birdies. Chen is currently tied for third on the individual leaderboard, two shots off the lead.
Amelia Garibaldi sits just outside the top 15, scoring a 1-over 73 to tie for 16th. Katelyn Harris recorded her second-lowest round of the season, carding a 2-over 74. Katelyn Lehigh shot 5-over and Vunnisa Vu shot 6-over.
Fresno State will continue the Mountain West Championship with round two tomorrow. The Bulldogs will be paired with New Mexico and San Diego State, with tee times starting at 7:45 a.m. PT.
