SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team opened the 2024 Mountain West Championship with a rematch of the regular-season finale against the Air Force Falcons at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The Diamond 'Dogs fell 3-2 to the Falcons.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons started hot right off the bat with two home runs in the first, one solo and one two-run to score three runs.
Fresno State led off the top of the second inning with a hit batsman and a walk, and both runners advanced to second and third on a sacrifice bunt from Justin Stransky. The 'Dogs got on the board when Grady Morgan scored on a wild pitch.
Starting pitcher Jake Dixon struck out a career-high 10 batters in 6.1 innings. Jaykob Acosta and Bryce Armstrong came in to relieve and held the Falcons scoreless for the remainder of the game.
An RBI single from Stransky with runners on first and second added a run for the Bulldogs in the eighth, but the late rally fell short and the 'Dogs were defeated 3-2.
