Marr leads Bulldogs to win over Cougars on Saturday Night
12/13/2025 8:02:00 PM | Women's Basketball
FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's basketball team dominated Chicago State in the final non conference game of the season on a career-high night for true freshman Ava Marr at the Save Mart Center on Saturday night, 81-62.Â
Marr led the 'Dogs with a career-high 20 points, six three-point field goals, four rebounds and one steal. Marr accounted for half of the team's 12 made three's tonight. Danae Powell tallied 15 points and claimed three 3PFG, along with seven assists, five rebounds and three steals. Jaisa Gamble and Emilia Long round out the double-figure scoring with 12 and 11 points, respectively.Â
How it happenedÂ
Fresno State opened with a 6-2 advantage through the first four minutes. Chicago's trip to the line had them sitting within one of the 'Dogs, 6-5. Powell dropped in a three for her first shot of the night. Bulldog defense held the Cougars scoreless for the last six minutes, forcing them 0-of-7 from the field. Back-to-back three's put the 'Dogs on a 8-0 scoring run. Fresno State closed out a 11-0 run accompanied by three shots from beyond the arc, two of which came at the hands of Marr and one from Long. 'Dogs held a 14 point lead after ten, 20-6.Â
The momentum continued to build as the Bulldogs hit another 12-0 run and forced Chicago State to four turnovers. The run featured four different Bulldogs making good on the basket with Powell's and-1, back-to-back buckets from Gamble, Avery Watkins on a layup and a deep three from Morelia Chavez. Powell saw continued success shooting 3-of-3 from downtown in the first half of play. Marr banked in the final shot of the first half with her third three for a twenty-seven point lead, 45-18.Â
Only way she knows how today, Marr locked in her fourth three-pointer to open the second half. Fresno State's tenth three-pointer of the night was handed by Aloni Oliver, the first of her career. Chicago State generated 19 points to stay afloat, but an 8-6 run to close carried the Bulldogs into the fourth up, 66–37.Â
Marr marked the first 20 point game of her collegiate career with her sixth three-pointer of the night. Cougars hit an 11-0 run midway through the final ten but their late quarter surge, 25-15, wasn't enough to chip at the Bulldogs lead.Â
