LAS VEGAS – The Fresno State baseball team fell short in game two of the weekend's three-game series against the Hustlin' Rebels of UNLV, resulting in a 4-1 defeat on Saturday night.
With the loss, the Bulldogs drop to 9-13 on the season and 2-3 in Mountain West contests.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UNLV jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning off Fresno State starter Aidan Cremarosa, who otherwise showed resilience with 10 strikeouts over five innings.
The Rebels extended their lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning with a solo home run. The Bulldogs' defense remained error-free throughout the game, but they struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities, leaving 11 runners on base.
Fresno State's lone offensive breakthrough came in the sixth inning, where Owen Faust delivered an RBI single to bring home Griffen Sotomayor. Despite outhitting the Rebels with seven hits compared to UNLV's six, the Bulldogs couldn't sustain their offensive momentum.
Reliever Caleb Anderson took over for Cremarosa and pitched solid innings, giving up just one run in the sixth while striking out five.
