'Dogs open series with 6-3 win over Cougars

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team opened the weekend series against Washington State with a 6-3 win over the Cougars.
Fresno State holds on to its spot in first place in the Mountain West standings with a 13-6 conference record, 20-21 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs were the first to score in an eventful third inning. Cam Schneider led off the inning by drawing a walk. Sky Collins successfully reached first on a bunt single that hit the infield dirt before being fielded.
Owen Faust followed Collins' lead, reaching first on a bunt fielder's choice. The Cougars' pitcher attempted to get Schneider out at third, but overthrew and allowed Schneider to score, and both runners to advance. Justin Stransky drove in the final run of the inning with an RBI groundout to the Cougar shortstop.
Bobby Blandford led off the sixth inning with a standup triple to straight-away center, his second triple of the season and first career hit against Washington State. Former Cougar Griffen Sotomayor hit a popup single to shallow right field, allowing Blandford to score. Pinch hitter Jett Ruby extended the Bulldog lead, singling through the right side to score Sotomayor and make it a 5-0 game.
Starting pitcher Jack Anker held the Cougars scoreless through the first 7.1 innings before Washington State managed to get on the board with an RBI single and double, scoring two runs.
Blandford responded in the bottom of the eighth, crushing a home run into the Cougar bullpen in right field.
JT Guerrero came in to relieve Anker in the ninth. Washington State managed to score one final run in the inning, but could not surpass the Bulldog lead. Fresno State defeated Washington State 6-3.

- Bobby Blandford and Eddie Saldivar both recorded triples against the Cougars today. This is the Bulldogs' first multi-triple game since February 23, 2024, against Cal State Fullerton.
- This was Jack Anker's fifth start of the season without a walk allowed.
