2/20/2026 10:59:00 PM | Baseball
FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team held a late lead but fell 2–1 to the Pepperdine Waves on Friday night at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.
The Bulldogs (1-3) recorded four hits and only one error while Pepperdine (1-3) totaled seven hits and one error.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State opened the scoring in the third inning. After working runners into scoring position, Griffen Sotomayor drove in the game's first run with an RBI groundout to give the Bulldogs a 1–0 advantage.
The Bulldogs' pitching staff kept Pepperdine off the scoreboard through the first eight innings, navigating traffic on the bases while preserving the one-run lead. Pepperdine threatened multiple times, but Fresno State repeatedly worked out of jams to keep the Waves scoreless.
Pepperdine broke through in the ninth inning, putting together a late rally to plate two runs and take its first lead of the game. Fresno State was unable to respond in the bottom half as the Waves held on for the one-run victory.
Fresno State finished the night with four hits while Pepperdine collected seven. Both teams committed one error.
