RENO, Nev. - The Fresno State track and field team opened the Credit Union 1 Indoor Track & Field Championships with two medals on Thursday. Both medals came in the pentathlon as Fresno State saw two athletes medal in the indoor pentathlon for the second time in program history, and first since 2024.
Ella Spaulding was the pentathlon champion with a personal-best 4,022 points, the second-most in program history. Through the five events, the Turlock native saw three personal-best marks leading her to her second career indoor medal.
After starting slow in the 60m hurdles standings, she took second in the high jump with a mark of 1.72m/5-7.75, tying her personal-best and moving her up the leaderboard into the Top 10. She bettered her score with another second place finish in the shot put, this time with a personal-best mark of 12.19m/40.0. The junior Bulldog saw yet another personal-best in the long jump, finishing fourth with a jump of 5.72m/18-9.25. Spaulding is the program's third indoor pentathlon champion, joining Jestena Mattson (2017, 2019) and Madison Hutton (2024). The trio of Bulldogs are also the only ones to medal at the championship in multiple years.
Hutton took third in the pentathlon, earning her third career medal at the indoor championship. Hutton scored 3,944 points on Thursday.
