'Dogs complete day two at MW Championships

RENO, Nev. - The Fresno State track and field team picked up another gold medal on Friday, finishing the day in third place in the team standings with 35 points.
The Bulldogs gold medal came by Liz Tarczy, who defended her high jump title with a personal-best mark of 1.84m/6-0.5. Tarczy won the title via jump off with Air Force's Morgan Glaser. More on the win can be found here. Fellow Bulldog Ella Spaulding took eighth in the high jump, adding one team point for the Bulldogs.
Senior Maria Lawson added more points for the Bulldogs with a sixth place finish in the weight throw. She had a throw of 17.78m/58-4 on her final attempt after advancing to the finals with a mark of 17.70m. Lawson closes out her Bulldog career with her highest-ever finish at the indoor championship.
In the long jump, Madison Hutton took sixth. The senior Bulldog, who was the third place finisher in yesterday's pentathlon, saw a jump of 5.95m/19-6.25 on her final attempt. Her last jump put her in sixth place, adding three team points for the Bulldogs. Janae Heffernan took ninth in the event, Kyndall Hannible took 12th and Matilde Guarino took 18th.
On the track, Hutton continued to dominate in her final championship event as a Bulldog. The senior advances to tomorrow's 60m hurdle final with a time of 8.62 in the prelims. She was just .01 second shy of her personal-best time, a current No. 6 time all-time. Breelyn Newsome took 11th in her first MW Championship with a time of 8.85.
