Diamond 'Dogs secure first series win over Stanford in 27 years

The Bulldogs (6-4) scored in each of the first four frames, highlighted by a six-run fourth inning, then turned to the bullpen to close out the Cardinal (5-6) after Stanford trimmed the deficit to three in the final innings.
This marks Fresno State's first series win over Stanford since 1999.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State jumped out early in the top of the first. Brady Hewitt opened the game with a double, then scored on Owen Faust's RBI single. Mikey Boyd followed with a two-run single to make it 3-0 before Stanford answered with two in the bottom half on an RBI single and a wild pitch to cut it to 3-2.
The Bulldogs kept adding on. Hewitt doubled again in the second and came home on Faust's RBI groundout to extend the lead to 4-2. In the third, Sky Collins worked a walk and scored on Marcus Nolen's RBI single for a 5-2 advantage.
Fresno State broke the game open with six runs in the fourth inning. Faust and Griffen Sotomayor started the rally with singles, then Collins delivered an RBI infield hit. With the bases loaded, Zach Plasschaert drew an RBI walk, Barclay Ovalle lifted a sacrifice fly, and Hewitt ripped a two-run triple before Jett Ruby capped the inning with an RBI single to push the lead to 11-2.
Stanford countered with a three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth to make it 11-5, then added two more on a two-run blast in the seventh and another run in the eighth to close within 11-8. Fresno State's bullpen kept the Cardinal from getting closer the rest of the way, with BJ Rodriguez earning the save.
