Bulldogs fall to Aggies in conference opener

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State softball team dropped their first conference game of the season to Utah State at Margie Wright Diamond on Friday. After building a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, Utah State scored nine unanswered runs as they took game one of the three-game series, 9-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was three up, three down for Lauryn Carranco in the first inning, with Olivia Hill and Larissa Flores making contributions on defense for the Bulldogs.
Fresno State went up 1-0 just two batters into the contest. With Emma Martinez on third, a throwing error allowed the senior to score with Alyssa Rebolledo advancing to second on the play. Jamie Hicks doubled the lead after sending a pitch off the pitcher's glove into left field, scoring Rebolledo from second.
Utah State got to work in the top of the third, plating four runs on four hits plus a throwing error as they built a two-run lead over the Bulldogs. The Aggies extended their lead in the fifth inning on a solo shot to left center to make it a 5-2 ballgame.
After Utah State added three more runs in the sixth, Fresno State left the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth as they headed into the seventh down 8-2.
A bases-loaded walk gave the Aggies their ninth run of the game in the seventh. The Bulldogs went down quietly in their half of the inning, as Fresno State fell to Utah State by a final of 9-2 at home.

- Fresno State goes to 11-10 on the season, 0-1 in conference play
- The Bulldogs are 3-5 at Margie Wright Diamond this season
