Bulldogs drop road contest to Lobos

Danae Powell led the Bulldogs with a career high 27 points on 10-of-20 shooting, knocking down five 3-pointers and adding six rebounds and five assists. Emilia Long chipped in 11 points and six assists, while Aloni Oliver provided seven points off the bench.
How it happened
Fresno State got on the board with Ava Marr's early three grabbing a brief 3-2 edge. Danae Powell then buried a pair of triples to keep the Bulldogs within striking distance. New Mexico answered in transition, building separation, 17-9. Emilia Long earned the three point play earning the final points of the opening period before the Lobos matched, 21-12.
Avery Watkins finished on a layup to open the second period, but New Mexico pushed the pace for points at the rim. Fresno State hit a stride on a 6-0 run including a deep three from Aloni Oliver. Morelia Chavez matched with her own shot from beyond the arc a minute later, on the 'Dogs closest chance to the lead, 30-25. New Mexico built off a double-digits run to take the lead into half, 44-29.
Fresno State put forth a stronger offensive period coming into the second half, outscoring the Lobos 19-16. Powell put up 10 points in the period with a 3-of-4 showing from the field and 2-of-3 from three. Lobos opened with the first two baskets until Fresno State hit their longest scoring run of the night, 7-0. Powell sparked it off on her third three-pointer of the night and a layup as Hedda Koehne capped it with a basket off a turnover. Ava Marr and Powell would each throw down a shot from beyond the arc before the end of the period
Fresno State continued to compete down the stretch, opening the quarter with defensive stops before Emilia Long converted a put back. Jaisa Gamble's first field goal of the game came late in the game for the teams ninth three-pointer, 75-59. Powell hit her career high 27 points off no other than a deep three. Oliver claimed the final basket for the Bulldogs in the final two minutes as the Lobos closed on a four-point run, 86-64.
