FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State dropped a 6-3 decision to San Jose State on Friday night at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium in a nonconference matchup.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs (11-23-1) struck first, plating two runs in the opening inning. After Brady Hewitt was hit by a pitch to lead things off, Owen Faust drove in the game's first run with a single through the left side before Sky Collins followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0.
Fresno State added another in the third inning when Collins brought home Griffen Sotomayor with a groundout, extending the lead to 3-0.
San Jose State (16-21) responded in the fourth inning, tying the game on a three-run home run from Neil Jansen. The Spartans took their first lead in the sixth on a solo home run by Rohne Klein, making it 4-3.
The Spartans added insurance in the seventh inning, scoring two runs on a Peyton Rowles single to push the lead to 6-3.
Fresno State collected six hits on the night, with Collins driving in two runs while Faust added an RBI. Marcus Nolen recorded the Bulldogs' lone extra-base hit with a double.
On the mound, Drew Townson (0-5) took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits over six innings while striking out six. Tyler Patrick provided solid relief, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings.
San Jose State's bullpen shut down the Bulldogs over the final five innings, not allowing a hit while striking out eight to secure the win.
