Former Bulldog student-athlete Caitlin Marshall was added to the Bulldogs coaching staff on July 31, 2017. Marshall enters her fifth season as assistant jumping seat coach for the Bulldogs in the 2021-22 season.

2021
With no fall season this year due to the lasting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, Marshall and the jumping seat ‘Dogs had a quick turnaround in preparation for the spring 2021 season. The jumping seat teams combined for a 35-63-2 mark. The flat led the way with a 19-30-1 record and the fences had a 16-33-1 mark. The Bulldogs won six combined jumping seat MOP honors this season, four in the fences and two in the flat.

The duo of Ana Bertozzi and Cecily Hayes led the way in both events for the ‘Dogs as the two most experienced collegiate riders on the squad this season. Bertozzi was named a fences and flat All-Big 12 selection and was the only rider in the conference to earn a spot on both teams. She was also an honorable mention All-American in the flat.

2019-20
The jumping seat teams had a successful 2019-20 campaign as they both secured a winning record. Combined, the teams had a 83-69-4 record. The flat team had a leading 43-31-4 record while fences recorded a 40-38 mark. The flat squad finished the season ranked No. 4 in the event, and the fences were No. 11.

Sophomore Cecily Hayes was a constant in the Bulldog lineup in both fences and flat, compiling a 10-5 mark in the fences and 10-4-1 record in the flat. She was an All-American honorable mention selection in both events, and an All-Big 12 honoree in both events.

Freshman Ana Bertozzi was also a strong leader in the fences. She opened her collegiate career with a three-meet win streak, and two MOPs in that time. Bertozzi was named the September Big 12 and NCEA Fences Rider of the Month for her strong start to the season. She finished her freshman season with a 9-7 mark and four MOP honors.

2018-19
In her second season as an assistant hunt seat coach with Fresno State equestrian, Marshall and the hunt seat squads combined for a 49-86-1 mark in the 2018-19 season.

Senior Alex Dirickson was a major contributor to the successes of both the Equitation on the Flat and Equitation Over Fences teams. Dirickson posted a 7-8 Fences mark and a 8-6 Flat mark while earning one Fences MOP and three Flat MOP honors. Dirickson was a two time Equitation on the Flat UEC Rider of the Week honoree, the UEC September Equitation Over Fences Rider of the Month, a member of the Equitation on the Flat All-UEC team and the NCEA Equitation on the Flat Rider of the Month for March.

2017-18
In her first season as Fresno State equestrian assistant coach, Marshall lead both of the hunt seat teams to expanding success as the Equitation Over Fences team secured a 28-41-1 record and the Equitation on the Flat squad saw a 31-38-5 mark on the 2017-18 season.

Senior Sierra Swaffar shined in both hunt seat events as she led the team in Equitation on the Flat with an 8-7-1 record and two MOPs and in Equitation Over Fences with a 7-8 mark and two more MOPs. Swaffar earned September UEC Equitation on the Flat Rider of the Month honors in 2017. Senior Kylina Chalack earned postseason honors being named to the 2017-18 UEC Equitation Over Fences All-Conference team. Chalack finished 8-5-1 in the fences event and earned one MOP for her performance against Oklahoma State on Senior Day, after going 8-8-1 in the event as a junior.

Marshall coached the Equitation on the Flat team to a quarterfinal finish in the newly expanded NCEA National Championships. The ‘Dogs fell to the No. 1-seeded Georgia.
Prior to joining the Fresno State coaching staff
Marshall, a native of Oakdale, Calif., rode for Fresno State from 2007-2011 and was a team captain as a senior. She received the Fresno State Equestrian Teams Award of Excellence which is awarded each year to the team member who exemplifies what it means to be a Fresno State Bulldog in the classroom, arena, gym and community.

Prior to her time on the team, she rode as a Junior and qualified for all of the top medal finals in California. After graduating from Fresno State in 2011, Marshall went on to work as an assistant trainer at Pheasant Grove sale and training barn where she rode sale horses and coached many riders from their short stirrup years all the way to the medals arena.
