Â
Patrick Markarian joined the Fresno State football staff in February 2023 as an offensive quality control assistant, and was elevated in 2024 as the Bulldogs' tight ends coach.
Â
Markarian coached up the Bulldogs’ young talent in redshirt freshman Richie Anderson. Anderson had 18 catches for 147 yards. He had the most yards by a true or redshirt freshman tight end for the Bulldogs since 2014. The Bulldogs saw the biggest performance from the young Bulldog at Air Force as he finished with five catches for 60 yards.
Â
The tight end room saw five participants in 2024, with one true freshman sitting out as a redshirt. The five active tight ends each played on offense and on special teams throughout the season. One in the group had a touchdown while one was on the receiving end of a successful 2-point conversion.
Â
Markarian made his return to the Valley after most recently serving as an offensive graduate assistant at Baylor (2021-22). In his first season on staff at Baylor, Markarian helped the Bears to a Big 12 Championship title and a win over Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl. That season saw Baylor's most-ever wins in a single season with a 12-2 overall record.
Â
Markarian coached at Baylor following three seasons as a graduate assistant at San Jose State from 2018-20. While with the Spartans, he worked with the offensive line.
Â
He helped San Jose State to a Mountain West championship in 2020. The Spartans were the only FBS team to finish in the top-10 for sacks allowed while averaging at least 35 pass attempts a game in 2020. The 2020 San Jose State offense also had its best rushing attack in five years with its 4.5 yards per carry.
Â
Markarian joined the Spartans after serving as offensive line coach at Fresno City College in 2017. He began his coaching career in 2015 as a student assistant coach at Indiana State University. In 2016, he was promoted to a graduate assistant position and was responsible for coaching the tight ends and the offensive linemen.
Â
The Fresno, Calif., native was an offensive lineman on the 2012 and 2013 Fresno City College teams that won the Valley Conference championship. He transferred to Indiana State and completed his playing career in 2014.
Â
Markarian graduated from Indiana State in 2015 as a history major.
