Wrestling Loses to No. 4 Oklahoma

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State Bulldogs lost their final dual meet of the season to fourth-ranked Oklahoma tonight by a score of 24-12. The Dogs end their season with a 6-7-1 dual meet record after going 0-5 at home against ranked opponents.
Stan Greene (Clovis, Calif.) got things started on the right path for the Dogs after he defeated 16th-ranked Dane Valdez, 8-6, in the opening 133 pound match of the meet that ended with Greene scoring a reversal on Valdez. Greene improves to 3- 1 on the season and in dual meet action.
Junior Paris Ruiz (Clovis, Calif.) held fourth-ranked Michael Lightner to a 3-2 score two and a half periods in the 141 pound match before he was pinned by the sophomore wrestler in six minutes. The Bulldogs lost their next three matches after Ruiz loss.
The 197 pound match proved to be a tight one as 16th-ranked Demetrist Huff (Upland, Calif.) defeated 15th-ranked Waymon May, 7-5, in overtime. Huff improves to 22-8 on the season and a 10-2 dual meet record.
Top-ranked Stephen Abas (Hayward, Calif.) improved his overall record to 30-1 after he dealt fourth-ranked Shane Valdez his fourth loss of the season in Abas 6-3 victory.
The Bulldog wrestling team will return to action Saturday, March 6, at the Western Athletic Conference Championships at Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colo.
