Bulldog Wrestling Holds Off The Cougars

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State improved their dual match record to 4-2, but just barely, as the Brigham Young Cougars made it a close contest 19-11 at North Gym on the campus of Fresno State.
The Bulldogs opened up with three straight victories as Ralph Lopez (Fr., Fresno, Calif.) defeated Jose Enriquez 17-6 for his fifth major decision win of the season. Darrick Duran (So., Fresno, Calif.) upended Chris Risenmay 10-8 and Tim Cornish (Sr., Manhattan, N.Y.) squeaked by Rocky Smart 5-2.
Dan Jackson (So., Kingsburg, Calif.), Jason Rossotti (Jr., Selma, Calif.) and Tom Gohde (Jr., Bozeman, Mont.) added to the Bulldogs team scoring ledger with one win apiece.
No. 7 Paris Ruiz (Jr., Fresno, Calif.) and No. 4 Aaron Holker had the last and best match of the night, as both these nationally ranked wrestlers put on a show for the crowd. Holker halted Ruiz?s nine match win streak with a 8-7 victory.
The ?Dogs will next face San Francisco State and No. 6 Illinois on Jan. 16. The San Francisco State match-up will be at 10 a.m. and Illinois will take on the Bulldogs at 1 p.m. Both matches will be in the North Gym on the campus of Fresno State.
