No. 25 Fresno State Wrestling Adds to Dual Match Win Total Bulldog Jason Bedsole (Jr., Spring Valley, Calif.) started the dual match in very impressive fashion as he pinned Marc Eylar with just a little over a minute and half seconds ticked-off the clock. The Bedsole win sparked the ?Dogs to a 29-10 rout of Central Washington. No. 7 Paris Ruiz (Sr., Fresno, Calif.) had another dominating victory as he won by major decision over Shane Jaime 16-5. The Bulldog?s day was not over as Dan Jackson (So., Kingsburg, Calif.) and Jason Rossotti (Jr., Selma, Calif.) both captured major decision wins as well. Fresno State had to forfeit the 149 pound match to Central Washington as Ralph Lopez (Fr., Fresno, Calif.) was a bit banged-up before the event.
Fresno State Grapplers are Downed By the Ducks In a friday night tilt at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore., the Ducks handed the No. 25 Bulldogs a tough loss 25-12. No. 7 Paris Ruiz (Sr., Fresno, Calif.) added another win as he defeated David Watson 6-0, this gave the Bulldogs a 9-4 lead over the Ducks early in the dual match. Oregon would not be denied in the end as they took six of the last seven matches from the ?Dogs to get the win. Other notable Bulldogs were Dan Jackson (So., Kingsburg, Calif.) and Jonte Davis (Sr., Fresno, Calif.), as both wrestlers added wins during the dual match. No. 21 Oregon State Squeaks Past No. 25 Fresno State In a battle of Top 25 wrestling squads in Corvallis, Ore., the Bulldogs get inched out by the Beavers 20-18. The ?Dogs went back and forth all afternoon against the powerful Oregon State team as five Bulldogs were victorious during the event. In the match of the night, No. 7 Paris Ruiz (Sr., Fresno, Calif.) faced-off against Ben Richards, formally the number 16 wrestler at 133 pounds in the nation. Richard?s home advantage proved very foreboding as he had Ruiz down 3-6 late into the match. But the gritty Bulldogs pulled four points out of his pocket (two for takedown and two for reversal) and with 2:11 of riding time (one point awarded for riding time), Ruiz just escaped with a close win 8-7. The Bulldogs came into the match a man down, as their usual 165 pound starter Matt Demers (Jr., Modesto, Calif.), suffered a bruised right ankle in the last home stand. The No. 25 Bulldog Grapplers Conquer The Vikings The last dual match of the grueling weekend in the great northwest had Fresno State walk away with a 34-12 victory over the Portland State Vikings. The Vikes came into the dual a bit banged up, as they forfeited both the 157 pound and Heavyweight matches against the visiting Bulldogs. Fresno State also came in barring gifts as they forfeited the 184 pound contest. The ?Dogs with the slight advantage pulled off some impressive W?s, Tom Gohde (Jr., Bozeman, Mont.) got his first pin as a Bulldog in just 17 seconds (the fastest ?Dogs pin this year) and Dan Jackson (So., Kingsburg, Calif.) also recorded a pin against Portland State. Three other ?Dogs wrestled to victory as Fresno State packed its? bags headed home. The Bulldogs will travel to the campus of Arizona State as they will face both Embry-Riddle at 4 p.m. and the host Sun Devils at 7 p.m. on Saturday, January 29th.
