GAME QUOTES
Fresno State head coach Britt King
General comments on the game
"I don?t know if you noticed, but our freshmen carried us the second half for awhile. We?re so used to Tiffany Lewis carrying us that when she has an off night we know that we needed somebody else to step up. When the game got on the line we were going to go with the strengths, Tiffany Lewis and Amanda [Baker]. When the game was on the line, I definitely had to go to those two because I knew they had experience, we needed experience at that point."
On the efforts of the freshmen
"The freshmen played hard. They got us out of the hole and then put us ahead, but I that that last minute or so Long Beach State was going to try to out-experience us and I couldn?t allow that to happen. They did good. They played great and I think what you guys are seeing is just as the season is going on we?ve got a different situation and more experience, they know how to handle it a lot better. When Long Beach allowed us to get it under double figures, I think everybody on the team and on our staff was very confident that the game was ours at that point."
On the gameplan to stop 6 foot 8 inch Rhonda Smith
"Our gameplan before the game was to always surround [Rhonda Smith] and have defense on her, so that any time she?d go for the basketball, she would already have at least two people on her. One thing I was afraid of was that she can be physical at times and the referees cleaned that up early and they didn?t allow that. I watched a lot of games on tape and she gets physical, but I was just glad they didn?t allow it to get to that level."
On playing the eighth consecutive game with only eight players
"When you have seven players, you can?t mess with their hearts. People try to count the number of people that are out there, but they have to look very closely at the hearts. They are seven of the hardest working girls you can put together. They have a lot of heart."
On the victory
"Every win is a big win for us. You can never take any win too light. You don?t know when your next one will be, so you always enjoy it. Remember, every high is short term, every low is short term. You enjoy each one, make each one your biggest one."
