Fresno State Takes Advantage of Depleted Titans The Bulldogs opened their 2000 home dual match schedule with an easy 37-9 win over a six-man California State Fullerton team at North Gym in Fresno, Calif. Four ?Dogs opened up tonight?s dual match with forfeit victories as Ralph Lopez (Fr., Fresno, Calif.), Darrick Duran (So., Fresno, Calif.), Tim Cornish (Sr., Manhattan, N.Y.) and Jason Rossotti (Jr., Selma, Calif.) walked away with easy points for the ?Dogs. Fresno State?s Tom Gohde (Jr., Bozeman Mont.) had a gut wrenching comeback win over 1999 NCAA Qualifier Babak Nejadmaghaddam 5-4. Gohde rose up and pulled off a two-point takedown of Nejadmaghaddam with just seconds left in the third period. Matt Demers (Jr., Modesto, Calif.) and Jonte Davis (Sr., Fresno, Calif.) both racked up impressive victories. Demers wasted no time by pinning Kenneth Murrary in 29 seconds and Davis got a major decision win over David Rodriguez 16-6.

Bulldogs Win Handily Over Southern Oregon In a tune-up dual match before the annual UC Davis Tournament in Davis, Calif., the Bulldogs vanquished the Southern Oregon Raiders 30-9. No. 8 Paris Ruiz (Sr., Fresno, Calif.) extended his winning streak to three matches as he earned a technical fall victory over Justin Thurman 16-0. Four Bulldogs picked up major decision wins: Matt Demers (Jr., Modesto, Calif.) defeated Jeremy Wynla 13-2, Tim Cornish (Sr., Manhattan, N.Y.) finished off Chris Huntley 11-1, Darrick Duran (So., Fresno, Calif.) took out Ryan Green 16-7 and Ralph Lopez (Fr., Fresno, Calif.) upended Jeremy Wynla 13-2.

UC Davis Tournament Produces Three Bulldog Champions No. 8 Paris Ruiz (133 lbs.), Ralph Lopez (141 lbs.) and Tim Cornish (157 lbs.) walked away with three individual championships at the 14th annual UC Davis Tournament in Davis, Calif. In the 133 pound championship match, Ruiz was faced against his teammate Jonte Davis (Sr., Fresno, Calif) and won a major decision victory over Davis 13-4. Lopez was also match up against another Bulldog in George Moreno (Jr., Firebaugh, Calif.) for the 141 pound title. Lopez defeated Moreno, who was classified as an unattached wrestler at the prestigious tournament, 5-1. Cornish (157 lbs. Fullerton Open Champion) added another piece of hardware to this season?s trophy case by defeating UC Davis? Burt Plerson for the championship 4-0. The annual tournament was an open tournament and no team scores were kept.
