Wrestlers Rise in Rankings

FRESNO, Calif. - Amateur Wrestling News released new rankings Dec. 5, 2000, which included two previously unranked Bulldog wrestlers. Fresno State as a team is ranked 20th.

Junior, Derrick Hayes is ranked No. 14 in the 133 division after winning the Fullerton Open tournament and placing 5th at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. Sophomore, 165 division wrestler, Eddie Gifford is ranked 19th. He placed third at the Fullerton Open and eighth at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.

Stephen Abas remains on top of the 125 division after winning in Las Vegas. 141 division wrestler Ralph Lopez improved from his preseason 18th ranking to 15th. Lopez won the Fullerton Open. Nathan Vasquez, 157 division wrestler, improved from 15th to 13th after placing 6th in Las Vegas.
