Wrestling Rallies to Beat UC Davis 21-15

The Bulldogs lost the first four out of six matches, but won the last four in a row to capture a win over the Aggies at Davis, Calif. Despite a nine point deficit going into the seventh match, Fresno State pulled out a victory with wins by Billy Blunt, Stephen Abas, Derrick Hayes and Ralph Lopez. The `Dogs improve to 5-5 while the Aggies drop to 8-4 on the season.
Beginning at the 149 division, Fresno State's Jim Medeiros lost by a 5-3 decision to UC Davis' Josh Sternberg. No. 15 Nathan Vasquez of FS came back with a 8-1 decision over UCD's Burt Pierson, tying the score at three.
Next the `Dogs lost two in a row, Eddie Gifford was pinned by Jeremiah Jarvis in 2 minutes and 46 seconds and Mike Mellor was decisioned by Adrian Garcia 8-5.
At the 184 division, Jason Rossotti of FS won his third consecutive match by beating Burak Pekin 5-2. The Bulldogs lost one more, in the 197 division, before rallying for the win.
Blunt defeated Mike Maben in the heavyweight division 8-4, improving his record to 10-1. No. 1 ranked Abas picked up a win in the 125 division with a pin over Tommy Schurkamp and then No. 15 Hayes won by one point over Urijah Faber. Lopez ended the meet with a Bulldog win by decisioning Kevin Jones in the 141 division.
Fresno State's next meet is at home tonight against No. 14 Oregon at 7:00 p.m.
