FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State women's basketball players Lindsay Logan and Omelogo Udeze have been named to the preseason All-WAC first teams. The selections were made by conference coaches.
The coaches also have picked Louisiana Tech as the preseason favorite to win the 2001-02 WAC title. The coaches picked Hawai'i second, followed by SMU. Fresno State was tabbed as sixth.
Logan, a junior, was a first-team All-WAC pick last year, Fresno State's first since the 1994-95 season. She played in all 29 games a year ago and led the conference in assists average (5.7), three-pointers per game (3.1), minutes per game (37.1) and double-digit scoring games (27). She also finished third in scoring average (16.9) and ninth in steals (1.8). The Sandy, Utah, native has been a WAC player of the year candidate in both her freshman and sophomore seasons.
Also a junior, Udeze was a second-team All-WAC honoree in 2000-01. She was the conference rebounding champion with a 9.6 average, becoming the fifth consecutive Bulldog to win the rebounds title. She played in all 29 games and had double-doubles in 12 contests, most in the WAC. She owned a 15.8 scoring and 10.9 rebounding average against WAC opponents.
The Bulldogs return seven letterwinners, including four starters, and add eight freshmen to this year's team. Fresno State's incoming class was rated the 53rd best in the nation by the Women's Basketball Journal. The season begins Nov. 17 when FS takes on Delaware State at the North Gym.
