No. 16 Wrestling Wipes Out Wyoming 31-7

FRESNO, Calif. - The 16th ranked Bulldogs won eight matches in their 31-7 victory over Wyoming, improving their record to 12-6. No. 3 Billy Blunt and No. 1 Stephen Abas both pinned their opponents and No. 13 Nathan Vasquez got a major decision in the 'Dogs' first meet of the day.
Fresno State won the first two, as Vasquez beat Levi Prevost 17-9 at 157 pounds and Eddie Gifford won a 7-5 decision over Justin Christenson at 165 pounds.
The 'Dogs lost the next two out of three matches. Mike Mellor lost to Steven Schenk 9-1 in the 174 division and Tom Gohde lost to Craig Rumsey 9-4 in the 197 division. Fresno State's Jason Rossotti got a win in the 184 division with a 10-8 decision over Kevin Kessner.
Fresno State won the last five matches, the first two by fall. Heavyweight and third ranked Billy Blunt pinned Brad Steele in 55 seconds, posting the Bulldogs' fastest pin of the season. Next up No. 1 Stephen Abas pinned John Faczak in 1 minute and 34 seconds.
Fresno State's Ben Martinez an Wyoming's Kelly McConville went into overtime tied at 1-1 in the 133 division, but Martinez got a takedown in 42 seconds for the win. Ralph Lopez beat Wyoming's Thad Trujillo 7-2 and Jim Medeiros beat Mark Hamrick 4-3 at 141 and 149 pounds respectively.
The 'Dogs will travel to Colorado to take on Air Force at 5:30 tonight in Fresno State's the last dual meet of the 2000-01 season.
