FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State put on a show for it's last home meet of the 2000-01 season as the Bulldogs upset No. 13 Oregon State 18-17. Both teams won five matches in the meet, but Stephen Abas was responsible for the one point difference. Fresno State and Oregon State each won four matches by decision. The Beavers fifth win came from a technical fall, but the Dogs' fifth win came from Stephen Abas' pin over Michael Delaney which gave Fresno State the point toward victory.
Jim Medeiros got the meet off to a solid start for the 'Dogs with a 7-3 win over Oregon State's Casey Horn in the 149 division. The Beavers struck back in the next match as 6th ranked Eric Jorgensen beat Fresno State's 15th ranked Nathan Vasquez 7-0.
In a close 165 pound match, FS's Eddie Gifford and OS's Jake Huffman were tied at six when Gifford got an escape in the third period. Gifford managed to hold Huffman off for the remainder of the match to win 7-6, putting the Bulldogs back in the lead 6-3.
The Beavers won the next three as No. 7 Nathan Coy teched Mike Mellor in 6 minutes and 33 seconds. Next, Isaac Weber beat Jason Rossotti in double overtime 1-1. Weber and Rossotti were tied at one apiece after a 1 minute overtime and a 30 second overtime, but because Weber was the offensive wrestler, the Beavers earned the win. In the 197 division, Fresno State's Tom Gohde fell to Oregon State's Andy Bowlby 10-6, putting the Beavers ahead 14-6.
The Bulldogs got a win in the heavyweight division as No. 3 Billy Blunt decisioned No. 8 Jason Cooley 6-4. Fresno State regained the lead when No. 1 Stephen Abas pinned Oregon State's Michael Delaney in 2 minutes and 35 seconds, making the score 15-14 Fresno State.

Ralph Lopez, who was the deciding factor in dual meets against UC Davis, Cal Poly and Oregon, faced Shane Cunanan, who beat Lopez twice last year, once in dual action and again at the NCAA tournament. Lopez dominated over Cunanan, picking up a takedown in the first and second periods, and two more in the third, while Cunanan's three points came from escapes. Lopez lifted the Bulldogs to a 18-17 victory over No. 13 Oregon State.
Fresno State will travel to Boise State on Thursday, February 15 for its next match-up. After Boise State, the 'Dogs will face Wyoming and Air Force on February 17.
