Wrestling Signs Eight National Letters of Intent

FRESNO, Calif. - Eight wrestlers from around the nation signed national letters of intent to wrestle at Fresno State. The newcomers will join the ninth ranked Bulldog team in Dennis DeLiddo's 21st year as head coach.
Among the wrestlers signed, seven are California natives, including four from the San Joaquin Valley. Coach DeLiddo has high hopes for the newcomers, all of whom had successful high school careers.
"They [the signees] had great high school records and I expect them to carry on the Bulldog tradition of excellence," said DeLiddo.

Took second place at the Calif. State meet wrestling at the heavyweight division ... pinned all four opponents leading up to the final match ... named a Stockton Record Athlete of the Week ... was a three-year varsity letterman in wrestling and a two-year letterman in football.
Daniel Chapman, 125, Fr., Bakersfield, Calif. (Centennial HS)
Compiled an overall record of 149-16, going 32-2 in his senior season ... SWYL league champion `98-01, Centennial's first four-time league champ ... took first place at the CIF Central Section tournament in '99 and '00 ... dislocated his elbow in the finals of the Central Section tournament, forcing him to injury default and receive second place.
Sanddeep Gosal, Hwt., Fr., Union City, Calif. (James Logan HS)
Went 42-4 his senior season at James Logan HS wrestling in the 215 division ... took sixth place at the Calif. State meet ... won the MVAL title as a junior and senior ... won the North Coast Section as senior.
Joey Guiler, 125, R-Fr., Suwanee, Ga. (Tennessee Chatanooga)
Was a three-time state champion in Georgia wrestling at 119 pounds for Collins Hill High School ... had a 46-0 record his senior year ... compiled an overall record of 174-3 through four years ... attended the University of Tennessee Chattanooga in `00-01 where he redshirted.
Britt Mooney, 174, Fr., Bakersfield, Calif. (East High)
Won the SEYL title at 171 pounds his junior and senior seasons ... took first at the Central Section tournament his senior year ... took third place at the Calif. State tournament his senior year.
Ricky Palomino, 141, So., San Jose, Calif. (Oklahoma State)
Was the Calif. State champion his junior year at 135 pounds for Independence HS ... took fourth in the state as a senior ... won the North Coast Section title his junior and senior years ... was on the world team in '96 ... attended Oklahoma State where he redshirted the `99-00 season.

Was a four-time SWYL champion ... placed second in the Central Section as a junior and senior at 152 pounds ... was the Calif. State champion his senior year ... placed second in the state as a junior and seventh as a sophomore.

Wrestled varsity at 130 pounds for Clovis HS his senior year ... was the TRAC, Central Section and Calif. State champion in '00 ... set the record for number of pins in a season at 35 for Clovis HS ... named 1st-team All-Valley and high school All-American.
