FRESNO, Calif. - Behind 24 points from Lindsay Logan, Fresno State defeated Nevada 68-56 at the North Gym. The win snaps the Bulldogs' three-game losing streak and improves their record to 7-8 (2-3 WAC). The Wolf Pack fall to 4-10 (1-4 WAC).
Fresno State's outside shooting is eventually what did in Nevada on this afternoon. After the Bulldogs did the majority of their work on the inside in the first half, Logan and Veronica Mack did the damage from beyond the arc in the second. Four of Logan's six three-pointers came after the intermission while Mack finished with 15 points. FS ended up shooting 46 percent from the floor, including 50 percent in the second half.
The Bulldogs led nearly the entire first half but were never able to shake the Wolf Pack, who took their only lead of the game with 2:48 left in the opening stanza and were tied 24-24 with Fresno State with one minute left. But in that last minute, the Bulldogs grabbed the momentum by going on a fast 5-0 run on two free throws by Mindy Clark and a three-pointer from Logan.
Fresno State kept right on accelerating in the second half, bolting to an 11-point lead at the 16:26 mark. The Wolf Pack managed to trim the advantage to seven with 12:15 left, but that was as close as they would get the remainder of the game. Logan provided the dagger, nailing a three off a Nevada turnover with 6:58 to go, giving FS a 54-38 it would never relinquish.
"This was the first game all year we shot consistently throughout the entire game," said Fresno State head coach Britt King. "I give a lot of credit to our team. It's really easy to get down and question yourself when you've lost three in a row like we did, but this team didn't do that."
Heroes abounded for the Bulldogs in the game. Clark, receiving a starting nod for the first time this year, scored a season-high 10 points while pulling in eight rebounds. Mack added 15 while Tiffany Simon included 10. It marked only the third time this season four FS players have recorded double figures.
"We had a great week of practice this week," said Mack, who added four assists and two steals. "Mindy [Clark] really gave it to them in the first half, they collapsed [their defense] and that made us more wide open in the second half."
Laura Ingham led Nevada with 12 points and seven assists. Ashley Bastian had 11. The Wolf Pack hurt themselves with their shooting their entire night. They made only 37 percent of their shots from the floor and were just 9-of-19 from the free throw line.
Fresno State's next action comes Thursday against Boise State. Game time is 7 p.m. at the North Gym.
