FRESNO. Calif. - Fresno State won seven of 10 matches as it cruised to a 30-10 win over UC Davis. The 'Dogs improved to 5-0 while the Aggies, who featured three Clovis Unified graduates, dropped to 6-6.
The Bulldogs scored an easy 12 points to lead off the meet. Senior Grant Harrington accepted a UC Davis forfeit in the heavyweight division and senior Stephen Abas got a pin in the 125 division. No. 1-ranked Abas pinned Tommy Schurcamp in 1 minute and 58 seconds.
Fresno State lost an overtime match in the 133 division as 13th-ranked Derrick Hayes was upset by Uriah Faber 10-8. Junior Ralph Lopez gained momentum for the 'Dogs with a 12-6 decision over UC Davis' Cris Brines in the 141 division.
The Bulldogs won the next two matches in the 149 and 157 divisions. Jim Medeiros beat former Clovis West Eagle Kevin Jones by a 5-3 decision and Ben Baca beat Jeremiah Jarvis by a 10-6 decision.
Fresno State went 2-2 in the last four matches. Freshman Marcio Botelho highlighted the last match with a 41 second pin over 2000 Buchanan graduate Ronnie Silva in the 197 division.
