Krohn Advances to Quarterfinals of San Diego All-College Tournament

FRESNO, Calif;. - Alex Krohn advanced to the quarterfinals in Flight 1 of the San Diego All-College Tournament, taking place this weekend at the University of San Diego. Krohn is one of four Bulldogs participating in the tournament.
Krohn, a junior, opened by breezing past Valentino Pest of San Diego State 6-4, 6-3. He moved on to the quarterfinals by having an even easier time of things against Thomas Bieri of Oregon, who Krohn beat 6-1, 6-1.
Freshman Marc Schaerer also opened with a first round victory, his coming over Brian Wilson-Hayden of UC San Diego by a default. However, Schaerer wasn't as lucky in the second round. He fell to Pierrick Ysern of San Diego 6-1, 6-1. Ysern reached the round of 16 at the Wathen/Hancock Bulldog Classic, played Oct. 11-13.
While Krohn and Schaerer competed in Flight 1, two other Bulldogs - Dan O'Rourke and Dustin Ilic - played in Flight 2. Ilic won both of his matches to advance to the quarterfinals. His first victory came over Ali Fehmi of Pepperdine 6-3, 6-1. The No. 4-seed then picked up a straight set victory over Ben Regin of San Diego 6-3, 6-1.
Like Ilic, O'Rourke won his first round match easily. The freshman defeated Kevin Patrick of California 6-3, 6-3 but then fell to Michael Fricke of UC Santa Barbara 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
In the Flight 1 doubles bracket, the team of Ilic and Schaerer scored an 8-2 first round victory over Tom Novak and Chuck Tang. Not as fortunate was the team of Krohn and O'Rourke, which lost in the first round to Arizona's Tim Mullane and Dan Andros 9-8 (3).
Singles and doubles quarterfinals, as well as consolation matches, continue Saturday.
