Schaerer In Consolation Finals of San Diego All-College Tournament

FRESNO, Calif. - No Bulldogs are left playing in the main rounds of the San Diego All-College Tournament, being competing this weekend at the University of San Diego. Four Fresno State players are entered in the tournament.
The last Bulldog remaining in the Flight 1 singles bracket at the start of play Saturday was Alex Krohn. But the junior fell to Nicolas Beuque of San Diego 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. Beuque was a quarterfinalist at the just-completed Wathen/Hancock Bulldog Classic.
Also falling on hard time was fourth-seeded Dustin Ilic. He was upset by Junaid Hossain of Oregon 6-4, 6-4.in the quarterfinals of the Flight 2 singles tournament.
In doubles, Ilic and Marc Schaerer won their first round match by default over Jason Pongsrikul and Beuque. But in the semifinals, the Bulldog duo fell to Tigran Martirosyan and Jaakao Asuja of Loyola Marymount 8-5.
In Flight 1 singles consolation action, Schaerer opened his day by defeating Brent Davis of UC Riverside by scores of 6-2, 6-2. He continued his run by grinding out a 6-3, 4-6, (10-2) win over Norman Tam, also of UC Riverside, in the semifinals. A super-tiebreaker was played for the third set.
Schaerer will play his consolation final match Sunday.
