No. 13 Softball Gets WAC Sweep Over Louisiana Tech

RUSTON, La. - No. 13 Fresno State softball wrapped up its four-game series against Louisiana Tech in Western Athletic Conference play with a 2-0 victory in the night cap at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.
After taking two from Louisiana Tech in Fresno earlier in the month, the Bulldogs concluded conference play against the Lady Techsters this evening then they notched two runs on 10 hits while holding La Tech to four hits.
Junior right-hander Leslie Poole walked three and struck out three as she improved to 13-4 overall and tallied her third shutout on the year.
Three Bulldogs picked up multiple-hit games in sophomore shortstop Pam Perez (2-3, run), freshman designated player Jamie Southern (2-4) and senior second baseman Vanessa Czarnecki (2-3, RBI).
The 'Dogs scored a run in the top of the fifth and seventh innings.
In the fifth with one out, junior catcher Pam West doubled down the left field line. Junior Sha Oliver came in to pinch run for West. With Czarnecki at the plate, Oliver advanced to third on a passed ball before Czarnecki singled to right field to knock in Oliver.
In the seventh with two outs, Perez singled to right field and advanced to third as the ball got past the Lady Techster right fielder. Senior center fielder Tiffany Whipple then singled down the right field line to score Perez.
With a 43-14 overall record and a 14-2 mark in the WAC play, Fresno State travels to Tulsa for a 1:00 p.m. (CDT) conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 27.
The doubleheader wins over Louisiana Tech increased the Bulldogs' first place lead to three games over Hawai'i. UH (30-20, 11-5) resumes WAC play on the road when it travels to Portland State for a four-game series on Saturday and Sunday. Tulsa played one game against San Jose State today and won 3-1. The night cap was postponed until tomorrow morning as rain halted play. The Golden Hurricane (42-12, 9-6) is in third place in the WAC standings and sits four and a half games back of Fresno State.
