FRESNO, Calif. - New women's basketball coach Stacy Johnson is in the midst of a very busy week. First, she inked her first recruit -- Midland (Texas) College's Chanie Sutherland -- since taking over April 5. Now she will begin a mini-celebrity tour that sees her make appearances prior to Thursday's Fresno Falcons playoff hockey game and Sunday's Fresno State baseball game.
Fresno takes on the rival San Diego Gulls at 7:30 p.m. in Game 3 of its WCHL best-of-five playoff series at Selland Arena. Before the game starts, Falcons President John Tull will officially welcome Coach Johnson and her staff to the community on behalf of the organization at center ice during pregame festivities, which get underway at 7:15 p.m. The Falcons and Bulldogs will become co-tenants at the Save Mart Center when the brand new arena opens in the fall of 2003.
Tickets for the game are on sale at the Selland Arena Box Office and at ticketmaster.com.
The first-year coach moves her act to Beiden Field on Sunday, where she will throw out the first pitch prior to the Bulldogs' 1 p.m. baseball game Sunday against Sacramento State. Johnson will also be on hand beginning at 12:30 p.m. on the concourse at Beiden Field for an autograph session.
