Wrestling Prepares for Long Weekend

LONG WEEKEND AHEAD
The weekend starts early for the 24th-ranked Bulldogs this week with an 11 a.m. Friday match-up at San Francisco State. Later that day, Fresno State face; the UC Davis Aggies in Davis, Calif. Last year against the Aggies the Bulldogs walked away with a win, 30-10. On Saturday the Bulldogs hope to take home the All-California Tournament title. Last year, Fresno State won the title with 122 points. Three Bulldogs won individual titles and five placed second and third.
BULLDOGS DOMINATE AT HOME
The Bulldogs extended their record by two after hosting and beating Portland State, 35-6, and Cal State Bakersfield, 27-10. In the first match of the night against Portland State, Fresno State freshman Greg Gifford won the 184 division by injury default against Kjell Nykreim. In his first dual match this year; heavyweigth redshirt freshman Jerry Cearly Antonio Criado in 1:44. This put the Bulldogs up 15-0 after three divisions. The Bulldogs lost at 125 but won again at 133. Junior Casey Olson pinned Edward Dahlen in 3:19 at the 141 division. The score board then read 24-3. In last match of the Portland State dual in the 174 division No.11, Eddie Gifford won by major decision over Quinn Collett. Eight Bulldogs would take their matches against Cal State Bakersfield to give Fresno State their second win of the night. The Bulldogs won the first three weight classes 184, 197 and heavyweight, putting the score at 10-0. The Bulldogs next win came at the 141 division when Casey Olson won by decision over Anthony Baza, 5-2. Junior Jim Medeiros won his second match of the night at 157 in a decision over Brian Cobb, 7-3. Senior Ben Baca took the floor for the first time of the night to win by technical fall at 165 over Christian Arrellano.
TOP DOGS
The Bulldogs toppped the charts recently as Amateur Wrestlings 24th team in the nation. Among chart toppers is Eddie Gifford. He has been ranked through out the year recieving his highest ranking of 11th by Intermat Wrestling early last week.
FRESNO TAKES ANOTHER WIN AT HOME
The Bulldogs took on No.10 Nebraska and won. Beginning the match at the 184 division freshman Greg Gifford got his first dual win, 14-12, against B.J. Padden. In next match up at 197 junior Marcio Botelho won by pinning Kyle Gubbles in 48 seconds taking the match score to 9-0. Junior Jim Medeiros would put the Bulldogs up 16-13 after his major decision 15-4, win over David Ingalls. But the Huskers came back with a decision win, 10-5, in the 165 division making the score 16-16. The last match featured Huskers No.13 Travis Pascoe and Fresno State's No.14 senior Eddie Gifford. Gifford pulled the win out with a decision win , 5-2.
