Visintainer Named WAC Special Teams Player of the Week

DENVER - Louisiana Tech running back Ryan Moats, Hawaii defensive lineman Mel Purcell and Fresno State placekicker Brett Visintainer were named the Western Athletic Conference offensive, defensive and special teams players of the week, respectively.
Moats, a sophomore from Dallas, Texas (Bishop Lynch HS), rushed for 199 yards on 31 carries and a career-high three touchdowns in a 42-34 win at Nevada. Moats scored on one-yard runs in the second and third quarters and then sealed the win with a 69-yard burst late in the fourth quarter. He averaged 6.4 yards per carry and has now rushed for more than 100 yards in three straight games.
Purcell, a sophomore from Pago Pago, American Samoa (Lenone HS), tallied 12 tackles, including nine solo, and had two sacks for 14 yards in a 31-15 win over UTEP. He also recorded three quarterback hurries in the contest.
Visintainer, a junior from San Ramon, Calif. (San Ramon HS), hit all three field goal attempts, including the game-winner with no time left from 39 yards out, in Fresno State's 31-28 win over Rice. His other two field goals were from 45 and 43 yards. He also made both of his extra point attempts and played the game after suffering a severe ankle sprain during Friday's walkthrough.
Other offensive nominees included senior quarterback Ryan Dinwiddie, Boise State; freshman center Kyle Young, Fresno State; junior running back Michael Brewster, Hawaii; senior quarterback Kyle Herm, Rice; senior running back Keylon Kincade, SMU; and junior quarterback James Kilian, Tulsa.
On the defensive side, nominees included junior cornerback Gabe Franklin, Boise State; senior linebacker Bryce McGill, Fresno State; senior defensive back Corey Brazil, Louisiana Tech; senior linebacker Brandon Boyd, Rice; and freshman linebacker Reggie Carrington, SMU.
Special teams nominations included junior kick returner Chris Carr, Boise State; junior place-kicker Justin Ayat, Hawaii; and senior punter Dustin Upton, Louisiana Tech.
