FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State wrestling coach Dennis DeLiddo has announced the signing of Shanon Slack to a letter of intent to wrestle for the Bulldogs beginning next season.
Slack, who will begin next year as a redshirt sophomore, comes to Fresno State from Cerritos (Calif.) College, where he was a California Junior College champion at 141 pounds. He went 25-1 in 2002 and was ranked No. 1 in the state at three different weights during the year (133, 141 and 149).
At Cerritos, Slack won every tournament he entered. The Hermitage, W. Va., native was the Southern California Regional champion and the Cerritos College Athlete of the Year. He also won the Las Vegas National JC Open.
"Shanon has the ability to be a good Division I wrestler," DeLiddo said. "He could wrestle at 133 or 141 for us. We've got some young guys coming in next year, and Shanon is someone who could make an immediate impact for us."
