SEATTLE- Washington's Tina Frimpong scored two first-half goals to lead No. 14 Washington to a 3-0 victory over Fresno State on Friday night in the opening round of the Husky/Nike Invitational.
The Bulldogs (3-3-2), who were playing in their second match this week and fifth in the last 10 days, were unable to slow down the Huskies on offense. Washington held a commanding 28-4 advantage in the shot department, led by Nikki Gamble with five.
Fresno State sophomore Kortney Lewis (Visalia, Calif.) recorded two of the Bulldog's four shots, while junior Heather Fox (Morgan Hill, Calif.) and sophomore Eriko Yoshiki (Satte City, Japan) both added another.
Frimpong's first goal came at the 29:05 mark following an assist from Sara Davis. She found the net again just five minutes later, converting on a pass from Kim Taylor.
Washington (4-1-2) tacked on a third goal six minutes into the second period when Blair Ruport came away with the unassisted score at the end of a scramble in the penalty area.
Bulldog goalkeeper Jeannette Paine (Kelowna, British Columbia) made four saves in goal.
Fresno State will conclude tournament play on Sunday at 11 a.m. when it faces defending national champion Portland, which checks into the game ranked No. 10 nationally.
