FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldogs, 5-7, will wrestle the Cal Poly Mustangs, 4-6, 2-2 Pac 10, tonight at 7 p.m. in the North Gym.
The two teams have over a 40-year-old rivalry, with Cal Poly leading the all-time series record 25-17-1. Fresno State and Cal Poly have wrestled each other almost every year since 1962.
Fresno State has won the last four dual meets against Cal Poly, with its most recent victory a 25-12 domination on the road.
The Mustangs are ranked 23rd by the Wrestling International Newsmagazine (W.I.N.), but are not ranked by any other published wrestling poll. The Bulldogs are ranked No. 20 by The Wrestling Mall.com, but are unranked by all other polls, such as, InterMat Wrestling and the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
Fresno State boasts three ranked wrestlers in its starting lineup. They are: Casey Olson, No. 14 in the 149 division, Marcio Botelho, No. 9 in the 197 division, and Clint Walbeck, No. 10 in the heavyweight division.
Cal Poly will be bringing ranked wrestlers Vic Moreno and Ryan Halsey to the meet. Moreno is raked third in the 125 division and Halsey is eighth in the 184 division.
The Mustangs also have two other ranked wrestlers, Darrell Vasquez (133) and Matt Cox (149), who are ranked No. 6 and No. 15, respectively. But, according to Cal Poly's Media Relations Office, the two will not be making the trip due to illness and injury.
Also at tonight's meet, head coach Dennis DeLiddo will be recognized for earning his 300th career win at Fresno State's last home meet against Cal State Fullerton. DeLiddo's career record is 302-161-3.
