Fresno, Calif. - The Bulldogs started out the 2004-05 season on Nov. 18 with the traditional Alumni Match. Six alumni arrived to take on this year's team, including two former conference champions, Tim Cornish (2000) and Paris Ruiz (1999).
The first match of the night involved true freshman Chris Gifford against Tim Cornish. While Gifford came on late, Cornish picked up a slim 5-3 victory.
Next, junior Tom Fragoza took on Jonte Davis. Fragoza and Davis put on a audience pleasing high-scoring match that ended in a tie, because of the friendly nature of the competition.
Junior Dan Cadwallader had an impressive performance in the next match. Wrestling against Stan Greene, Cadwallader won in convincing fashion, 7-2 with a near fall in the first period.
Sophomore Shane Seibert was the last current wrestler to compete in the night and won in a easy 7-0 match over Matt Demers.
Dan Cadwallader and Chris Gifford would wrestle again against Paris Ruiz and Zhon Kuraspediani respectively, and they dropped both matches against the experienced alumni, who had the edge in the matches, 4-2.
All of the matches were close, however, and the event was a good warmup for the regular season to come. The Bulldogs start the 2004-05 regular season with the Fullerton Open Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 20.
