Botelho Wins At 2004 Fullerton Open

Fresno, Calif. - Fresno State Wrestling opened their competitive season on Saturday by attending the Fullerton open, which was highlighted by Marcio Botelho winning his bracket in the 197-pound weight class.
While all wrestlers in this event competed unattached, approximately 15 schools brought their teams to the event.
The Bulldogs had four other wrestlers finish second in their weight class. From the lightweights, Sophomore Christian Bowerman was the runner-up in the 133-pound bracket, and junior Joe Mavins was second in the 141-pound weight class. This event was the first event that Mavins has wrestled in for the Bulldogs, since transfering from Lassen Community College.
Two other Bulldog wrestlers finished second. Senior Jim Medeiros won that honor in the 157-pound bracket, and senior Clint Walbeck was second among the heavyweights.
Rounding out the Fresno State wrestlers placing in this tournament, Jatinder Chatha finished fourth in the 184-pound bracket.
Fresno State's next action will be on Wednesday, Dec. 1, when they will travel for a dual against the host of this meet, Cal State Fullerton.
