Wrestlers Sneak Past No. 25 Wyoming 18-17

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State used strong efforts at the heavy weight positions to upset 25th-ranked Wyoming 18-17 on Friday night at the North Gym.
The victory came in the regular season finale for the Bulldogs (7-11), which snapped a two-match winning streak and won for just the second time in the last seven dual meets.
Wyoming (6-5) started strong, winning the first two matches at 157 and 165 to take an 8-0 lead. Fresno State didn't get on the board until Anthony Rubalcava bested Trevor Murray at 174 by a 3-1 decision.
Greg Gifford followed with a 6-5 decision over Sam Wendland, making the dual score 8-6 and running his own record to an impressive 22-9 on the year.
The Cowboys picked up a 4-1 decision at 197, but at heavyweight, No. 7 Clint Walbeck took out 16th-ranked Dusty Hoffschnieder 3-1. Then at 125, Christian Bowerman won a decision over Barrett Duell 7-3, giving the Bulldogs a 12-11 advantage.
Wyoming picked up victories by decision at 133 and 141, but Fresno State received six points for a forfeit at 149, giving the Bulldogs their final margin of victory.
Next up for Fresno State is the West Regionals on March 6 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
