FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State head football coach Pat Hill will be a featured speaker at the upcoming Central California Mayor's Conference. The conference, is scheduled in Fresno on Wednesday, April 21.
Mayors from 62 Central Valley communities have been invited to attend. They represent cities and towns in Kern, Tulare, San Joaquin, Fresno, Madera, Merced and Stanislaus counties. Federal and state legislators, the Governor's office, and representatives from each County are also expected to participate.
The agenda for the Central California Mayors Conference will include discussion on the key topics of economic development, the state budget and air quality.
The Kenneth L. Maddy Institute of Public Affairs at Fresno State is one of several sponsors of the Mayor's Conference
Hill will present to the mayors Fresno State's vision for athletics and the Green V Association. The Green V Association is a newly formed fund-raising arm for athletics, which will be seeking philanthropic gifts and licensing opportunities of the Green V.
The Green V has been a symbol Hill has used since being named head football coach in December of 1996. The Green V represents the power of the agricultural community of the Central Valley. Bulldog sports teams wear the Green V with pride to showcase the Valley. The Pride of the Valley theme has gained national acclaim as the Bulldog football players wear a large Green V on the back of their helmets.
Hill will show a video presentation about the Green V Association. The Green V Association will raise funds for capital and operational expenses for Bulldog Athletics. Fresno State, located in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley, is the only Division I-A program between Bakersfield and Sacramento, an area nearly as large as the state of Tennessee.
"The Green V Association is a vital part of the future of Fresno State Athletics and Bulldog Football," said Hill. "We live in the largest agricultural region in the world. We are proud of the Valley and the many great products and produce that some from the Valley. This is a way to not only benefit Bulldog Athletics, but also the businesses, farms and ranches in the Valley."
Hill has guided Fresno State to five consecutive bowl appearances, including wins over Georgia Tech and UCLA in each of the last two Silicon Valley Football Classic bowl games. Hill has a record of 55-35 in his seven seasons and owns the WAC's best winning percentage by a head coach in that time. His success transcends the football field, as the Bulldogs have the second-highest total of Academic All-WAC selections since 1997, with 57.
